ANDREW RAIHER

ABOUT

Andrew Raiher is a British/America composer, musician and coach based in Los Angeles. He is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist who has played all over the world crossing genres from Rock to Baroque. He has scored, produced and contributed to a wide range of films, television shows, and commercials.

Educated at London’s prestigious Trinity College of Music and The Royal Academy of Music, Andrew’s professional musical career has spanned over two and a half decades. His mother, a music therapist, started his musical training in Suzuki Method violin at the age of three. Andrew then applied this method of study to the three instruments for which he is now most heavily in demand professionally  – voice, guitar and piano.. The early focus on ear training enables Andrew to hear music elementally, using this skill and others to great effect to work effectively and quickly.

PERFORMANCE

Having spent years playing in various orchestras and groups across a variety of genres at many of London’s most notable venues, Andrew gained invaluable understanding and experience in ensemble playing and how to write for groups of all sizes and styles.

On London’s singer-songwriter scene, Andrew playedguitar and musically directed Australian singer and actress Sally Boyden’s Candy Bombers band. He then joined forces with the now Grammy and Golden Globe nominated Australian singer and songwriter Sia  (Chandelier, Zero 7, The Voice). They formed a band and spent a year touring Europe as Sia’s career blossomed into the megalith it is today. Andrew also played sessions with reggae legend Horace Andy (Massive Attack) and r Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), to name a couple.

FILM COMPOSITION

During that period, Andrew also began to play guitar, keyboard, vocal and percussion sessions on London’s film music scene and collaborated regularly with his great friend and composer, Ilan Eshkeri, with whom he worked on his first major motion pictures including, Layer Cake, Stardust and Hannibal Rising among others. When the late Michael Kamen’s score for Boo, Zino & the Snurks, needed to be completed posthumously, Andrew took on a vital writing role in the project. Shortly after completing that score, an opportunity came up writing on a project with German composer Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the Caribbean, Gladiator). The score was recorded at Air Studios and when it concluded Klaus invited Andrew to work with him in Los Angeles on the then forthcoming movie, Constantine, starring Keanu Reeves. That collaboration would be the first of many very successful projects Andrew and Klaus would work on in the coming seven years with writing and performing contributions to movies such as, Poseidon TMNT, 16 Blocks, Premonition, Ultraviolet, Solomon Kane, Shanghai as well as  co-writing and co-producing the scores of the drama epic Among Wolves and Julian Farino’s (Entourage) The Oranges, starring Hugh Laurie, Leighton Meester, Catherine Keener and Oliver Platt.

In 2015, Andrew contributed to the critically acclaimed film Room, which starred Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay. Since then, he has scored or contributed to a number of other films, television shows and commercials, including Filthy Rich (2020), Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles (2022), the upcoming Amazon series, Palm Royale. Andrew is currently co-writing the score for the forthcoming ‘Antonia’, made by Groenlandia Films for Amazon Italy as well as preparing to co-write and co-produce the long-awaited album from Frankie Sullivan and his band Survivor (Eye of the Tiger).

When not performing and composing Andrew takes great pleasure in supporting other creatives and professionals on their musical performance and recording journeys. He coaches a small number of professional musicians and high achieving youth in voice, piano, guitar, composition production and music theory when time permits. Andrew lives in Santa Monica, USA, where he recently received his United States Citizenship. In addition, he holds a British passport and speaks fluent French as well as slightly less fluent Italian.
